GROUP`S HISTORY
The
group was founded in 1993 as a jazz trio with the sole intention of playing
good music well.
Originally only intended to be a `hobby` band as a playing alternative
to Andy & Jim`s other band, the very successful `Street Level`.
The Lemongrove (or as it was then `The Lemongrove Plating Co`, taken from
an advert seen on the side of a l930s racing car) continued to grow in
popularity and success supporting some popular names on the jazz festival
circuit such as George Melly, Courtney Pine,
Barbara Dennerlein to mention a few.

With
the band`s growing audiences and successes it was decided to wind
down Street Level (after nearly fifteen years!) and to put all the
effort into the Lemongrove project. Piano was added in 1995 and the band has been working regularly ever since, playing to a variety of audiences at public and private events of all sizes and occasions and sometimes in the most bizarre locations. |

Shattock - Piano Slightly more animated than a bust of Lenin, although the fingers betray the musicality that lies within. Been playing since birth. Studied music at Salford University to BA Hons standard. |
Jan
Evans - Drums The powerhouse behind the band. A big band drummer in a small band, Jan has played with the best of them |
Sonny
James Lovell - Guitar Has been playing for more years than he cares to remember. Luckily he always remembers the notes but sadly not where the car keys are. An old rocker at heart but has moved on and become a fine exponent of jazz…you can still see his roots though! |
Andy
Collins - Double Bass/Vocals A nostalgia freak with diverse interests and musical tastes. Musically inspired by people as polarised as Ella Fitzgerald and Led Zepplin. Drives old cars, wears old clothes, sings old songs, tells old jokes. |
